Oh, how I love burlesque! I get all excited when I think about the fun, the atmosphere, the performance. At some point in the near future (when time and responsibility allow) I’ll don some pasties and dive right in. Until then, however, there are photos, videos and boudoir artillery to salivate over.
I do love a good Valentine fête, so last Thursday I attended Team Burlesque’s burlesque benefit, Va Voom Vagin! at Cabaret Mado. Seske Lee, Miss Sugarpuss, L. Diablo and friends twirled and shaked their goodies for a good cause. The cause: VDay Montréal, the local faction of the global movement against violence towards women and children. Check out VDay International for events and resources near you.
This was my first time (and definitely not the last) watching these local burlesque performers charm and strut, and what a delight! High on fun and glamor, with an added dash of flexibility, their curves, smiles and humour dazzled and captivated my dear friends and I. I know it sounds a little glowing, but talking about good burlesque always makes me feel a little more fantastical.
Lady Luck also shone upon me as the benefit raffle bestowed its grand prize baggy upon me. Included were a pair of panties by a local designer, a DivaCup(tm) and an hour live model drawing session. I split the loot up with my table mates, distributing the DivaCup and panties to my girlfriends and absconding with the sketch session. To be truthful, I really wanted the Team Burlesque pasties beign raffled off, but the sketching session was my second choice.
All in all a fabulous performance with a great crowd. I’m planning on going to a future performance (whenever one is listed on their site) and will make a notice for it on KIY when I find out. Hey, maybe I’ll work up a routine and join in sometime soon.
